Class 2 vs. Class 3 Safety Vests: Which One Do You Need?
Understanding Safety Vest Classifications: Class 2 vs. Class 3
Did you know that not all safety vests are the same? One of the most common questions we hear is, “Do I need a Class 2 or Class 3 vest?”
Here’s what you need to know.
Class 2 Safety Vests
Class 2 vests are designed for work environments where traffic is moving under 50 miles per hour or where workers need increased visibility in busy settings. These vests provide a balance of coverage and mobility, making them ideal for construction, landscaping, and warehouse operations.
Class 3 Safety Vests
Class 3 vests are required for environments with higher risks—such as when workers are near traffic exceeding 50 miles per hour or in low-light or nighttime conditions. These vests offer more reflective material and greater coverage for maximum visibility.
A quick visual tip: If the vest has sleeves, it’s likely Class 3. However, always check the label to confirm the ANSI rating. Both Class 2 and Class 3 vests must meet the manufacturing standards defined by ANSI/ISEA 107-2020.
